Watermelon.
In Japan, large green fruit with black vertical stripes on the skin and red flesh are common, but there are also fruit with plain skin and flesh that is red, yellow, orange, etc., and they come in a variety of sizes from large to medium to small.
The original watermelon had a plain skin and is said to have grown sparsely in desert regions.
A mutation then gave rise to a variety with black vertical stripes, and because the stripes are so noticeable, it was eaten by animals and birds, which led to the spread of the variety's distribution area.
On the other hand, it seems that plain varieties are now being cultivated because they are less likely to be targeted by crows.
The stripes on watermelon are attractive to humans.
I tried to capture the cuteness of watermelon stripes in a pattern.
